I participated to the volunteer work at International Chiba marathon relay race competition. It was marvelous volunteer works I have ever done since I started volunteer work. The things we do in this volunteer is to support the marathon team which designed to us, my team was Great Britain team. Famous athlete of Great Britain is Ms. Paula Radcliff, she won many track races worldwide, and who got the MBE honor from British royal. She has not come to this competition; because she got pregnant, but there are famous British athletes came to Japan.

By saying the support of the team, many of you want to know “what are the supports?” I will write about here what we, volunteer students from Kanda University did to the teams. Student will be support of the team the countries that speaks English language. There are lots of document to filled in, and also it have to be submission to the competition committee. The skills required to the students are, of course there is communication skill. There are questionnaire sheets required from Fuji-Television to get more information about the athletes to announce for the live telecast, which we have to translate to Japanese. Team leader meeting held at second day, we have to translate about what the chairperson talking in Japanese. The volunteer workers have to be at the information centre to answer the questions from athletes. There was a question like “where is the international phone?” The volunteers have to be calm to answer these questions, not to telling any false information. This point was hard time for me at the beginning, because I was too nervous to talk with them. Also, it was kind of difficulties to get use to the British English accent, but I use to it day by day.

I could not explain how to write the fulfilling emotions of participating of this volunteer, but this is one thing I can say; it is great experience to do it. It is great chance to be inside of International competition. The offering starts around September to October. Actual activities days is three nights four days, spend time with many athletes from all over the world. If you got interested in this volunteer, why don’t you entry this next year?

Please imagine your best sports. I want to change it by this blog. I would like to introduce about Kendo. Most people think it smells bad or not fashionable. It might be true. Firstly, I want to introduce negative aspects.

1. practice is very strict. When you enter the dojo, you have to make a bow. When you sit down, you have to do seiza. You do not stride over anything in the dojo. And there are many other rules.

2. teacher is like a demon. If you fall down on the floor, the teacher will say “Get out of here!”If you say “I feel sick”,the teacher will say “If you want to vomit, vomit here!” The teacher often push you away strongly by a bamboo sword. These are very common practices.

3. protector is heavy. You have to wear dougi, hakama, tare, do, men towel, men, and kote. There are 9 things that you have to wear.

4. you almost always have bruises on you bodies. We often miss the point so you almost always have them.

5. Dojo is cold in winter and hot in summer. Exactly, this is true. Also, you have no shoes and no socks. So, you oftentimes have some blisters.

6. this is individual sport. You have to fight on your own. Next, I want to introduce good points.

• you can train your spirits.
• you can be patient.
• you can have good attitude.
• you can learn politeness.
• you can learn importance of team work.

You fight alone even in a team competition but you can not win the match without team work. You have to preserve your power and give it to a person who fights after you. It seems that good points are less than bad points. However, you can get all good points from these bad points. Actually, number 1 and 2 have much to do with spirit, attitude and politeness. From number 3 to 5 are highly related to patience. Number 6 is about team work. Every negative aspect that you think about Kendo has a very important meaning. I think after you learn Kendo, you can stand any other hard sports. If you want to try it, you should not start it with halfway feeling.You should concentrate on it very much. I say that Kendo gives you valuable things that we need in our life. I’m 100% sure that you can see another aspect of yourself.

On October 18th, the sports festival was held at KUIS. It was a holiday for some students and teachers but we took part in the sports festival and it was an aggressive day for participants. I entered a softball tournament with my friends. The trouble was, our team didn’t practice softball anytime until that day so I thought we would be beaten on the first match. However there were some good players and a great manager in our team.

The manager is my friend’s senior and the players are manager’s friends. The first match was a dramatic game. We couldn’t hit the ball and get any points well so the game ended in a draw. To decide the team that can get through to semifinal, we played janken 3 times and we won! We were all surprised and pleased very much. At the semifinal and final game, thanks to manager’s game plan, we could get many points well.

Finally our team won the championship!!! When the final game ended, we tossed our manager into the air and we were impressed with the victory.

If we didn’t have special teamwork or if the manager and good players weren’t in our team, we can’t get the great win. Then I think that “janken” is very important to decide our outcome.

On Wednesay October 18th Kanda was closed. As teachers were free, some decided to play in a soccer tournament being held at Kanda. Dave, Scott, Allan, Ben and Brad played 3 matches in total (2 more than they expected!), reaching the semi-final, and beating the fancied Azurri team along the way - in all three games they kept a clean sheet, and only lost in the end on penalty kicks - so all in all a great effort. Maybe we'll see some ELI teachers at the Asia Cup!

2nd of July 2006, two days before American national holiday, American grand prix held at Indianapolis circuit. The Emperor Michael Schumacher won this grand prix, and his rival Fernando Alonso was 5th. This year Formula 1 is the battle between Ferrari and Renault, the battle color of red (Ferrari) and blue (Renault). But I really want to cheer the team, which is made in Japan. The team is “Super Aguri Honda”. At this grand prix, sadly they broke their car middle of the race.

Aguri Suzuki started new Formula 1 team called “Super Aguri Honda” from the year 2006. From the title, this team’s machine is all made in Japan. Team owner is Aguri Suzuki who was also fought at field of Formula 1, engine come from Honda, and drivers were born in Japan. One driver is Takuma Sato. He was in BAR Honda team before, and he has great result at America grand prix two years ago, finished at 3rd position. It was the great pleasure for Japanese fan that was 2nd time of Japanese racer got on podium since Mr. Suzuki got on at Suzuka circuit 14 years ago.



This year, Super Aguri Honda uses the old specked machine from two years ago. I think there are two reasons why they can fight against another team. One is the old type of Formula 1 car. Another reason is that the team does not have much experience of Formula 1 race, for convince, they are not good at pit work (For example, changes of tires, repair of Formula 1 car body). The 2nd reason is now solved a bit at middle of this season, and the 1st reason is also resolved soon at grand prix of Germany. Super Aguri Honda announced that the new machine called SA06; it will shake down at grand prix at Germany. Every time after the grand prix, team owner Mr. Aguri Suzuki complained about car; “I want to get SA06 as soon as possible for every team member”. This new machine, SA06 is made at Super Aguri factory at British, and the machine performance is getting better than now. The driver, Takuma Sato said, “I want to get good result by using SA06”, his energy to get higher position is really stronger, that makes superb race technique, which is the reason I like this man.

“Always, always new teams have bad result, always”, the Formula 1 reporter said. But after the grand prix at Germany, the Japan power will make good process? We have watch out for all year around motor sports world cup, Formula 1.

On June 18, LOTTE and YAKURUTO met in Jingu baseball stadium. Both team had to win the game because they might be the champions of community game. However, the weather was rain. It was difficult to operate the game so the game started behind 1 hour. At first, LOTTE got 2 point, but the middle of the game, YAKURUTO came from behind and the score was 4-2. The rain was getting hard and the top of the fifth inning, LOTTE filled the bases. The batter was Satozaki. The rain was like waterfall. Although it was very bad condition, he hit a home run with the bases loaded into the left stands. LOTTE come from behind victory. Finally, LOTTE won the game. The score was 8-7. LOTTE has to meet the game with Hanshin. YAKURUTO has to meet the game with RAKUTEN and NIHONHAM. If LOTTE win the game and YAKURUTO win only one time, LOTTE will win two consecutive championships in the community game. I hope LOTTTE win the game and get champion. Let’s support LOTTE.

Three Red cars, over 30 fouls, Kaiserslautern, German.

Under Lippi Italy have now gone 19 games without defeat, winning 11 of the matches from October 2004. That’s the second long victory in Italy’s history. The longest is being made by legendary coach Vittorio Pozzo. legendary coach Vittorio Pozzo made a record of 30 unbeaten games set in the 1930s.His team won 24 games and became the FIFA World Cup’s champion in 1938. People call Vittorio Pozzo “Pipe Coach”. Now many people call Lippi “Cigar Coach”. It means if Lippi wants to break the record, he has to win the champion of the German World Cup this time.

That was a really exiting game. “The most exciting game so far”, said by TSG Analysis Alvin Corneal(TSG = Technology Statistics Group).This is not lampoon.

I don’t know how Alvin Corneal could get this conclusion. I’m so disappointed with Italy now. The first game with Ghana, Italy played excellently. I agreed so, too. But really, there are more than one P.K. ignored by the judge. And Ghana had no assuredness to win Italy. Otherwise the final may be different. Of course, not only Italy, but also England, Brazil, Holland and Czech Republic. England wan two games by David Beckham . Brazil wan one game by Kaka. Holland wan two game by Robben. Where are the forwards?! Where are Owen, Tony and Van Nistelrooij? Almost the best several teams are not playing so well. Maybe that’s because it’s only first round now?
Let’s pay attention to Argentina and Spain more.
